We will be updating the state Freestyle flyer, but we want to get the word out. For the SDWCA/SDUSAW state freestyle tournament on March 20, 2026 the 16u and Jr divisions boys/girls will be doing a plus 3 weight allowance. This will not affect Schoolboy and under divisions that are AAU.
The reason for this is the feedback we have gotten, that since it is our qualifier for summer nationals and duals we know that some of the HS kids intend to drop weight for those tournaments. We want kids to be able to take a break from weight management, so we feel this is a good compromise as it is also in line with the NHSCA’s that will be the next week.
We feel this is in the best interest of the older kids who know their bodies and how to manage weight, and have a good feel for what weight they will wrestle at this summer.
Reminder- whatever weight you qualify for is the weight you are guaranteed a spot on the teams so please plan accordingly.
