Bs - probably 113 or 175
Girls - 100, 155, or 190 have some good potential

what a couple crazy ones in the finals. Still majorly under impressed with the amount of fan fair around the finals. Better feature matches could have been picked. All in all fun tourney

It was probably the best match in the finals. Many went exactly as they should and the Feature Matches were exactly what they were going to be and not sure why we always tend to vote for lopsided endings. Not discounting the crazy upsets in the heavier weights. Dirk and Irion losing is nuts, and on paper neither should have went that way. Made for some excitement.
Hopefully next year people will be a little more mindful on what they are voting on. But my guess it will be "Greg's" brother Gage again. While Gage is an awesome kid, theres just not going to be anyone there to give him any sort of match.

Quote from 3moves on March 1, 2026, 11:24 amAlso agree. can we up the game a little bit? Lower the lights? Spotlights? How cool would it be if they had lights over each mat? Pyrotechnics? And before anyone says well thats expensive. We have 4 schools who each have such capabilities. If I was an AV club kid I'd be hyped to do something like that. These kids work hard for this and deserve the extra effort

Quote from dvmpete on March 1, 2026, 2:53 pmI think the main reason they only seed out to 10 is because, if the main goal of the lower seeded wrestlers is to place in the top 8, it's actually advantageous to be in that 15/16 position vs one of the 11-14 positions. If you're talking bracketology, (on paper) the 16 spot in the bracket would likely have to beat the 7-seed in the 2nd-round wrestlebacks to make the podium, the 15 spot would have to beat the 8-seed in 2nd round wrestlebacks to make the podium...the 11-14 seeds would have to beat the 5 or 6-seed in that blood round to make the podium. So, if you're one of those last 6 seeds, it's better to be drawn in randomly and hope you get that 15/16 spot in the bracket. (Of course, if you're an 11/12 seed, you might have a better chance to pull off a first-round upset, but that happens less often...)

Quote from bearcatmom5 on March 2, 2026, 11:53 amFor the biggest stage of the year, it just feels like it’s missing something. No real spotlights. No walkout energy. No face-off hype. No moment that makes it feel like the finals. These kids work their whole lives for that match — it should look and sound like it matters.
You don’t need full-blown pyrotechnics (although that would be fun 😉), but atmosphere matters. Presentation matters. Energy matters.
I will say — at least the Monument tried. The lights dimming. The video board. The effort to create an entrance feel. It wasn’t over the top, but it showed they understood that the finals should feel different. The Denny was terrible - not sure if this was a venue difference? Or if no one stepped up in Sioux Falls to offer this?
These athletes deserve a stage that matches the magnitude of what they’ve accomplished. It’s not about flash — it’s about honoring the moment.
Just my two cents from someone who’s watched a lot of finals and knows how much these kids pour into earning that walk to the center circle.

Couldn't agree more! A few pops after that first session, get back to the arena for primetime action, not a lot better for the fan or wrestler experience!
All year long these kids wrestle 16 man brackets in ONE DAY on two, sometimes 3 or 4 mats. Definitely don't think that is necessary for the state tourney though. Two days is plenty! And by plenty, I mean perfect!!
Has the format of the state tournament changed every year for the past few years? We about missed one of our kids' matches in 7/8th because we were like, "He's at 132, we have a little time." Sike, the stooges that make decisions thought running all of the 7/8th place matches at the same time was a better idea than having everyone in the same weight class wrestle at the same time like it has been for........ever?
About time for girls to get their own tourney? They really do deserve it and it would be fair..........*wink* *wink* Would create a ton more time for the format to go back to the desired ways. Unfortunately, the wrestlers don't really know of a better experience do to, in my opinion, poor decisions most likely made for financial reasons unless they were going to state tournaments pre-2019 maybe? I think the Corn Palace would be a great venue for the girls state tourney! Or Pierre or wherever but due to living in a democracy, I do think that it ought to be voted on if this other entity should be forced upon the patrons wanting to watch boys state wrestling. Take a poll and find out who wants it separated, maybe I and the people around me are the unpopular opinion.
But ya, primetime would be nice again!! MPTGA

So basically the biggest reason you want the girls to have a separate tournament is because you don’t like girls wrestling. Get over yourself. As a fan and a Dad with both boys and a girl that wrestle I think it’s great. Also we don’t get to cheer our girls team on during the season very often due to overlapping schedules.
I honestly hope the state tournament stays in rapid permanently. I hate going to the premier center and it’s very close to me.

I never said that I didn't like girls wrestling. I think it is awesome that they have their own season now! Way better than the contrary. If my daughter wants to wrestle, I will be like 98.62% supportive of that decision!
What I was getting at is that the overall experience for everyone involved has diminished. If I want to go to an all day event, lets say to watch a concert, and between the acts they make me watch arm wrestling and it makes the day drag out and potentially make the event go unnecessarily another day, I may not be too happy. Nor do I think any reasonable person would be!
Another thing that I was getting at is that most sports that separate the boys and girls have their own state event, conveniently, on different weekends! This point here in itself should really be the tipping point for a decision to be made if people want to play the "equality" card. I know that life isn't fair or whatever but anymore it seems like the world today needs to be as fair as possible and especially to some demographics. Ask your grandfather if he thinks girls should be wrestling at all! But, please don't put words in my mouth!
Last point. You said "Also we don’t get to cheer our girls team on during the season very often due to overlapping schedules." Instead of me assuming what you mean here, I will ask the question. Does that statement mean that you prioritize boys wrestling over girls wrestling?
I am now over myself.
