Clinician Details:
We are excited to have John and Justin Peterson as our speaker and clinicians this summer!

John Peterson is an Olympic champion, two-time Olympic medalist, three-time World Cup champion and a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Peterson earned a silver medal as a freestyle wrestler at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany, then won the 180.5-pound freestyle gold medal at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada. He earned World Cup championships in 1973, 1975 and 1980. As a collegiate wrestler at Wisconsin-Stout, he was an NAIA All-American (fifth place) in 1971 and earned three conference titles. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1986.

He has shared his faith with people around the world, working with Athletes in Action and Campus Crusade for Christ in Ukraine and Mongolia for the last 20 years. Along with his brother, fellow Olympic wrestling champion, Ben Peterson, the duo founded Camp of Champs in 1977. The Wisconsin-based camp combines intense training and competition with recreation and character training from a biblical perspective.

Justin Peterson grew a wealth of knowledge in the sport through many experiences with elite wrestlers throughout his life.  Growing up with his dad and uncle (Olympic champions John and Ben Peterson) at Camp of Champs provided many interactions with the world’s best. Clinicians such as Dan Gable, Tom Brands, Brandon Slay, Barry Davis, Mike Houck, Lincoln McIlravy, Bill Zadick, Jim Gruenwald, and many others greatly influenced Justin’s understanding of the sport.

Justin would go on to wrestle for the Badgers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he continued his quest for success under coach Barry Davis.  Justin placed 6th at the University National Freestyle Tournament in 2007.  He graduated from UW in 2010 with a degree in Elementary Education and enjoys putting his teaching skills to work on the wrestling mat as well as the classroom.

Justin loves to travel overseas with Athletes in Action where he coaches college and HS wrestlers from across the country against countries like Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, Turkey, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, and others.

Justin is currently the owner of Peterson Wrestling Club and Head Wrestling Coach at Cumberland High School.  He has been a coach for over 11 years, been a Camp of Champs Clinician & Counselor for over 15 years, and multiple times been an Athletes in Action International Trip Coach. He has a lot of experience and wisdom to share with athletes and we are honored to have him come.
