Short reaction to Matthew McConaughey’s Art of Livin event:
Well I watched this yesterday… and got 10 major points… Here they are:
1. Choose trust over division. Why am I here?
2. Define your “more.” Delusion/Illusion More of what?
3. Close the gap between where you are and where you want to be. False sense of Identity.
4. Find your frequency. Complacency… False ceiling…
5. Create your own script. Greatest Strength…
6. Learn how to play the lead in your own life.
7. Find the beauty in life’s struggles.
8. Embrace your past and learn from it, look the monster in the eye.
9. Live with Gratitude
#1. It means that instead of focusing on what divides us, we should focus on what unites us and choose to trust each other. This can help us build stronger relationships and communities. Admit more was a common phrase used, so that is where #2 started.
#2. Define more: It means that you should define what you want more of in your life and focus on that. It could be more happiness, more success, more love, or anything else that you value. (Values) Also talked about later by Marie Forleo.
#3. It means that you should identify where you are in your life right now and where you want to be in the future, and then take steps to bridge that gap. This could involve setting goals, making plans, and taking action to achieve those goals. Identify where more value is, your false sense of identy, like hanging out with people that don’t challenge you to be better.
#4. It means that you should find the things that make you feel most alive and fulfilled, and then focus on those things. This can help you find your purpose and passion in life.
#5. It means that you should take control of your life and create your own story. Instead of following someone else’s script or living up to someone else’s expectations, you should define your own path and make your own choices. Matthew gave an example with Your greatest strength can be our greatest enemy. For example, someone who is very determined and focused might become so focused on their goals that they neglect other important areas of their life. Or someone who is very confident might become overconfident and take unnecessary risks.
#6. It means that you should take control of your life and be the main character in your own story. Instead of letting other people or circumstances dictate your life, you should define your own path and make your own choices. It was brought up that your white lies can lead to bigger lies that lead to bad things.
#7. It means that you should try to find the positive aspects of difficult situations and challenges. Instead of focusing on the negative or feeling defeated, you should look for opportunities to learn and grow from your struggles. Some times Matthew felt like a failure when achievement came too fast… He felt like an imposter, that he did not desire that success. Which lead to his next point. “What is the boogeyman?” and the longest of the 10 is #8.
#8. It means that you should accept your past experiences and use them as opportunities for growth and learning. Instead of dwelling on past mistakes or regrets, you should focus on what you can learn from those experiences and how you can use that knowledge to improve your life. “The boogeyman” as a metaphor for fear and the unknown. He encouraged the audience to face their fears and embrace the unknown in order to grow and achieve their goals. He also said something which I also believe, “Anything worth anything has to cost us something,” and “chase that dream down just to find out.” It means that you should pursue your dreams and passions even if you’re not sure where they will lead you. Instead of being afraid of failure or uncertainty, you should embrace the journey and enjoy the process of discovery.
“Look the monster in the eye.” It means that you should face your fears and challenges head-on instead of avoiding them or running away. By confronting your fears and challenges, you can gain confidence and strength and overcome obstacles.
#9. It means that you should appreciate the good things in your life and focus on the positive instead of dwelling on the negative. By cultivating a sense of gratitude and appreciation, you can improve your mental and emotional well-being and find more joy and fulfillment in your life. Dissect your successes.
#10 Trust – It means to trust ourselves, if not we miss out and lack of trust separates us, it can help you build stronger relationships and achieve your goals.
I remember a speech I listened to with Matthew before… So I searched Youtube for it and it was a University of Houston a commencement speech in 2015, where he gave his 13 life lessons which some people claimed to be one of the best speeches ever… to tell you the truth, I was waiting for something to come of the speech in the motivational genre… I kind of forgot about it til I saw this come up. I listened to the speech again this morning and would like to share the link… It is very good!
Unbelievable is the stupidest word in the dictionary.
Happiness is different than joy.
Define success for yourself.
Process of elimination is the first step to our identity.
Don’t leave crumbs.
Disconnect to connect.
Give your obstacles credit.
Find joy in your job.
Invest in yourself.
Learn how to be present.
Thanks for listening to me… hopefully you get some motivation reading these things!
I believe that the quote “Without growth, you’re dying” If you’re not growing or improving in some way, then you’re not really living. Growth is an essential part of life and it can take many forms such as personal growth, professional growth, spiritual growth, etc. By constantly learning and improving yourself, you can live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
