Quote from Travis on March 17, 2025, 3:14 pmCanton sent 11 wrestlers to the AAU state tournament this year. Not that this will have any bearing on future success. Because as already pointed out that successful aau kids will magically move to Canton.
just pointing out For other B schools, there’s a direct correlation between how many kids you send to AAU State and how successful they will be in the future.

Quote from Trisha01 on March 18, 2025, 7:30 pmWow, there is some wild stuff going on in this thread, fun read. Hunter Richmond started wrestling in Onida (Sully Buttes) in elementary school when I (his father) was working for the local coop. After I left the coop to go to work for another company we ended up moving to CO for 3 years where he only played football and baseball and never touched a wrestling mat. We moved back to SD in 2018 and choose Canton as that is where I graduated from and his grandparents have lived there since the early 80's. Hunter dove head first into the wrestling program as well as football, baseball and golf and started putting in the work in middle school, summer lifting, summer wrestling, getting on SD national teams and traveling to tournaments to get mat time. The summer of 2023 he wrestled 57 off season matches on SD national teams. This is the culture that has been created in Canton, putting in the work in the off season, having great practice partners, and creating a desire to succeed. It is definitely the adults that cause the commotion, most of these kids are great friends, have traveled together on national teams, have been roommates, worked out together and competed together. The text messages and instragram posts that fly around of them congratulating each other show that many of them are great friends. You will not see these kids boo each other they genuinely have a ton of respect for each other.

Quote from Travis on March 18, 2025, 10:12 pmStrange that the senior 285 pound would be close friends with the 120 pound 7th grader….
close enough to to tell him move up and talk to Aiden kranz about place to stay… same place Giedd stays…
Odd.
hats off to canton wrestlers they are hammers i agree off season wrestling is the answer . I in no way mean any disrespect to canton wrestlers some people move for legit reasons. Other Giedd for example are perplexing… family still in Desmet lives with another wrestling family..
i just find it odd how many some how end up in Canton. Year after year.
you can go back on track wrestling and point out examples of this year after year…

Quote from Armbar on March 19, 2025, 8:57 amWhen someone builds a world-class national training center in town that attracts some of the best coaches and kids in the area, ya that helps....a lot. Some move there to take advantage of that opportunity and the local high school is going to benefit. It's not against any rules! If you want to beat them, you may have to attract some kids from other schools to your program the right way within the rules.

That is interesting. Canton should petition up to the A's anyway, it would only help their wrestlers get better.

Sounds like the perfect chance for one of his friends from a summer national team to move in next year.

not sure how missed your post earlier but.. when I said region2 is weak this is my rationale-
out of the 4 regions —- region 2 scored 3rd in points At the state tournament 280 points behind region 3
out of 4 regions —- region 2 had the 3rd amount of placers
Now imagine canton wasn’t in that region.,..
I do have 2 boys in different schools oldest got in trouble in old school so sent him to school that his mom teaches at. Left a wrestling program that was on the podium at state duals and state tournament for a program that is in the building stage and not competitive at the team level… not sure how that compares to what canton has going on seeing how it is like the exact opposite

Quote from jobro04 on April 15, 2025, 10:01 amI’m going to preface this by saying I live in canton. I moved there a couple years before they became a really good wrestling school. I graduated from canton left for a few years and moved back right before I had kids. I have kids in the youth wrestling program. My oldest has not always trained with the school program. At that time it wasn’t the best option available for him to improve and reach his goals. He will most likely be on the varsity team next year. People have asked if I worry about some kid moving in and taking his spot. If he doesn’t want to lose his spot he better work harder. All the adults on this thread being pissed about a high school kid trying to better his situation is funny. Every single one of you better never change jobs to take advantage of a better situation then. It’s the exact same thing.
